ISSA's President Mr Rafael Fernandez, representing the International Shipsuppliers & Services Association (ISSA) and 1,500 ship suppliers throughout the world, congratulates OCEAN on the organisation's 50th birthday celebrations.
 

It is fascinating to look back and realise how much can change in half a century. Fifty years ago, few could have accurately predicted what the European ship supply industry would look like today in 2026. Fewer still could have anticipated just how vital a role OCEAN (the European Ship Suppliers Organisation) would play in keeping our industry thriving, resilient, and forward-looking.

From Local Markets to Global Standards

OCEAN was originally born out of a practical, immediate need to give ship suppliers a unified voice when interacting with the early European Economic Community – what many seasoned veterans still remember as the ‘Common Market’.

Since those early days, OCEAN’s mission has expanded tremendously. Today, the organisation does much more than just facilitate conversations. It serves as a dedicated watchdog and guide, closely monitoring the complex landscape of EU regulations. By doing so, OCEAN ensures that new policies, customs procedures, and maritime rules are practical, fair, and workable for everyday ship supply operations.

A Powerful Partnership for the Future

At the International Shipsuppliers & Services Association (ISSA), we see firsthand, the incredible amount of effort that goes into protecting and supporting maritime trade across Europe.
